A Little Bit about Mesothelioma

I have not heard of mesothelioma before I come across this site, and giving the fact that I am interesting in health, I have to check it out for myself.

So what is mesothelioma? According to Wikipedia, mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer where the malignant cells develop in the mesothium, a protective lining that covers the internal organs. This cancer is found in people who are exposed by inhaling asbestos particles, dust, and fiber or in other ways.

Mesothelioma is often developed in the mesothelial membrane which is also known as the pleural lining surrounding the lungs. Two-thirds of mesothelioma cases are found in the lung lining, therefore, pleural mesothelioma is called cancer of the lung lining.

In general, the symptoms of mesothelioma include shortness of breath, chest wall pain, pleural effusion, (fluid around the lung), fatigue or anemia, wheezing, hoarseness or cough, coughing up blood, and weight loss. In severe cases, the symptoms blood clots, jaundice, low sugar level, problem with bowel moment.

After the mesothelioma prognosis, there are treatments of radiation, surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and heated intraoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy.

On Surviving Mesothelioma website, you can find a book written by Paul Kraus, a 12 years survivor of mesothelioma, and his book has given hopes to many other people. His book is best known around the world on mesothelioma, and offers free for a limited time to newly diagnosed mesothelioma patients.

  1. Thank you so much for the info. I wasn't too familiar with mesothelioma either. I've seen a little about it in commercials, but that's about it.
