Girls Night In

Guest post by Mary Thompson

My two daughters and I have always loved having a 'girl's night out'. We doll ourselves up and go out for dinner and a movie. We have done this every first weekend of the month for years. Last month my oldest daughter, Sarah had injured herself at the softball game the night before. She had a badly sprained ankle and the doctor had strictly told her to stay off of it. She was very disappointed that we were going to have to cancel our tradition, so I decided to improvise. We would have our girl's night out in her room with her. We would order a pay-per-view movie on satelite tv and do each others nails. She didn't so much like the idea at first but when we found that the new Twilight movie, New Moon, was on, she was thrilled. I loaded up some snacks from the kitchen, grabbed my nail stuff from the bathroom, and we sat together and watched the movie as ate and talked. The movie is a wonderful movie. Anyone who knows anything about Twilight knows how captivating this love story is. It does not matter how old, or how young, there is just something about this movie that grabs a hold of you and does not let go. We all were on the edge of the bed just waiting for the next scene.

When the movie was over my younger daughter said that she wanted to have a 'girl's night in' more often. Sarah smiled and I knew that she agreed as well. I think I actually pulled it off and they had a good time after all.

  1. I'm looking forward to my girls growing up so I can do all that stuff with them. I think it's wonderful that you have such a precious, close relationship with your daughters. You didn't say how old they were, but I'm guessing teenagers?
Many mothers spend the week-end squabbling with their teenage daughters. You've done well.

  2. Lovely story! So nice that girl's night still happened and you all found a way to spend time together despite the sports injury.
