Curvy Petals

This is the little purple cone flower that grows in my friend's yard, and since the weather was so hot last week, all the petals curved backward.

I love the color of this cone flower. The light tint of purple makes it stood out from the rest of the garden. I wish I could have taken a shot of this flower from the bottom side, but lie down on the grass at a friend's house doesn't seem like a good idea.

The weather is a bit on the strange side this year. It is either too hot, or too wet. Most of my flowers didn't grow back at all and I only have three zinnia plants this summer.

Have a great weekend!

  2. I agree... lying down is not a good idea. It does give me a back, hip and knee pain when I take pictures because sometimes the angle that I like is too hard to capture standing up.

  3. My friends wouldn't be surprised if I laid down to get a better view of a flower - but they they know me. That's how I got a better picture of the fleabane.:-) The results were worth it, but my pictures still don't hold a candle to yours. I love your pics and have to agree with you about our strange weather.

  7. so it is the heat that's the culprit. A fellow blogger was wondering why her sunflower is curling.

Your profile photo, what is it?

  8. Cone flowers are interesting macro subjects and your photos are excellent. I like the pale purple in contrast with the vivid center.
Its petals will curve down anyway later, they usually do.

  14. I love the contrast between the reddish centre, and the mauvish petals! I agree - I would feel a little silly lying in the yard in front of people, too!

  15. Thankfully, my area has stayed true to form, blissfully cool thus far. We haven't had any really hot days.

Your flower is pretty, even if the petals are bent back. I like lavendar and purple - or the hot colors of bouganvilla!

  17. The colors on this cone flower are stunning, I like the bright red against the pink. Beautiful shots Icy. I like to get down low for shots too but I don't think I would do it in a friend's yard either.

  19. Hi Icy!

I agree about the weather being on the crazy side this year but it's nice to have a moderate summer but it makes me worry that winter will be freaking cold!
