Delicious Snow

I think this black squirrel is hungry, because after a while of running around, he picks up a pile of snow and starts to eat it. He reminds me of the children who often seem to have the same behavior.

There is nothing on the ground, or anywhere during the winter, so maybe the snow provides the fluid that this black squirrel needs.  They don't hibernate like other animals, but rather very aggressively looking for place to nest, and things to eat.

  1. Poor little guy. We have 75 days until the first day of spring...

  2. Yes - my Grandchildren have exactly this behavior! i warned teem not to eat the yellow snow, though.

  3. I don't think I've ever seen a black squirrel, just brown ones and white ones.

  4. The squirrels we have here do not go hungry in the winter. I do not know how they do it, but when they bury an acorn or nut, go right back to it. My yard is full of holes.

  5. Poor guy. Makes you want to buy some peanuts and feed him.

  6. Beautiful photo, I've never seen a solid black squirrel before... thanks for sharing! Happy White Wednesday!!!

  7. How wonderful!
    Happy New Year.

  8. Squirrels get treats here at our house and we have lots of holes in the backyard to prove it. Happy New Year!

  9. Brrr... That really looks chilly. At least Mr Squirrel found something to eat, poor chap.

I got your lovely Christmas card today. Thanks so much. Hope you're doing well.

  10. They are fascinating to watch. I'm sure he has some nuts/acorns buried somewhere.

  11. I wouldn't want to be looking for food in the snow, that's for sure....:)

  12. Poor little thing. He must be very hungry.

  13. Beautiful photo...I always love seeing what you are up to! Shine on and wishing you a wonderful new year!

  14. Maybe he was just thirsty...don't they store food away for winter?

  15. Aww! That poor fellow. I love squirrels, but we don't have any black ones where I live.

  16. must be the reason why my little boy's trying to taste it? lol

  17. Aw, he is a cute little fellow. Maybe there is something inside the clump of snow or he just needs water. Nice shots Icy.
